Explore our projects, community programmes, and partnerships that support residents and organisations across Hammersmith & Fulham

Community Compass is Hammersmith & Fulham Council’s new online home for the borough’s resident focused voluntary and community sector organisations.

What is it?

Community Compass is our new one stop shop for H&F residents looking for support and guidance from voluntary and community sector organisations. The online database is easy to use and can list everything residents need to know about your organisation, including your services and prices, CQC rating, events, address, contact details, website and social media accounts.

The website has been built to be a resident’s first point of research when looking for a new local service for themselves, family or neighbours. Working with our partners from across the voluntary and community sector, H&F responded to their requests to establish a digital space and community resource. Sharing accurate and reliable information that is accessible and engaging for residents is the key aim.

The website is also a great way to show evidence of your community engagement and credentials – useful when applying to grants and funding opportunities.

Sobus has a one year coproduction project, which is exploring how marginalized communities and the organisations that support them can be engaged in coproduction activities, making local services more relevant, accessible and user friendly.

We are developing a Coproduction Toolkit, which will provide a useful resource for VCSE organisations and statutory partners to support more effective coproduction and engagement activities locally. This project has also developed an Engagement Forum, where opportunities will be explained and explored, in order for groups to determine what particular opportunities they might be interested in getting involved in.

SOBUS employs a community organiser, Sharon Tomlin BEM, who provides direct support to communities in the borough. This work is currently focusing on the North End and Old Oak neighbourhoods. The Community Organiser listens and supports residents to bring positive change in their neighbourhoods by creating a grassroots movement of community action emerging directly from people’s aspirations, concerns and visions. They carry out research about the neighbourhoods and share this information with residents to inform and empower them.

The Community Organiser also represents and advocates for individuals and communities in local strategic forums, including with the Metropolitan Police, Primary Care providers, housing and other statutory services.

Introducing the H&F Climate Alliance

The H&F Climate Alliance is the borough’s network for businesses and organisations working together to take climate action. The network exists to catalyse partnerships, share expertise and embed climate action in organisations of all sizes across the borough. Through taking action together we can scale impacts and accelerate the transition to Net Zero.

Since launching during COP26, the H&F Climate Alliance community has grown to over 50 members and partners reflecting the diversity of organisations operating in Hammersmith & Fulham.

How do we work with businesses and organisations?

Through the H&F Climate Alliance, we work with businesses and organisations in three main ways.

Catalysing projects and partnerships

We facilitate new relationships and partnerships between H&F businesses and organisations, encouraging collaboration and delivery of impact. Our visibility of community action and local climate projects enables us to identify complementary opportunities that will deliver positive outcomes for both businesses and the climate.

Advising on climate action

The H&F Climate Alliance draws on the climate, ecology and air quality expertise of H&F Council to support local organisations implement strategic climate action plans.

Through regular sessions for members, expertise is shared along with tangible actions that organisations can implement. We encourage peer-to-peer learning about challenges and successes. H&F businesses also benefit from a range of incentives that make taking climate action easier and more affordable:

Free advice and financial support of up to £2,000 to make the switch to e- cargo bike deliveries

Specialist expert advice for your business (link this text with

A complimentary CBN Expert carbon footprint measurement license

Regular online webinars and in-person events to network with likeminded organisations across the borough

Member organisations can also be supported through advocacy from the H&F Climate Alliance, for example attendance at member events and meetings to advocate for ambitious climate action.

From 1 September 2025, a new partnership is responsible for Healthwatch Hammersmith and Fulham This partnership brings together the deep local knowledge and community connections of Sobus, W12 Together and the Healthwatch delivery expertise of Local Voice. Sobus’s role in Healthwatch is to engage local VCSE organisations in Healthwatch opportunities, so we will regularly share surveys, ask for your feedback on any challenges your clients have faced in accessing local health and care services. We will also be directly engaging with residents through our Community Organising service, and with our Healthwatch partners, holding events to invite residents and the groups that support them to share their views.

We are particularly interested in hearing from VCSE organisations who are helping residents with health and social care needs to better understand any barriers they may face in accessing these services. This might include language, cultural or social barriers that prevent or discourage residents from accessing the support they need. We know that often, residents will approach local trusted organisations for help with a wide range of health and care issues, and those organisations are therefore well placed to understand the challenges and barriers their clients face.

For example: Women from some faiths and cultural backgrounds were anxious about attending breast screening appointments Some first time parents were reluctant to engage with the health visitors as they did not understand their role in monitoring their baby’s development Some men are reluctant to seek help for prostrate related concerns

By understanding and articulating these issues, we are better placed to work with health and care providers to ensure services are adapted and improved to improve their cultural sensitivity and understanding of patient needs.

If you have any feedback or issues regarding local health and care services, please complete the form (can you create a form that links here – see attached)

VCSE groups requested the development of a single point of information where local services, events and information could be made available. In response, the council worked with Alliance Partners to commission H&F Compass (link to project page: HF Community Compass), a new online service where local groups can register their organisation and service offers, making it easier for residents, supporters, funders and other organisations to find them.

Volunteering

More work is ongoing to look at how volunteering can be strengthened in the borough, both by offering creative and flexible volunteering opportunities that would attract the broadest range of volunteers who live and work in the borough, and supporting VCSE groups to better recruit, support and retain local volunteers.

3ST (Third Sector Together) is an alliance of the voluntary and community sector (VCSE) across North West London (NWL), supported by the NWL Integrated Care Board (ICB). Sobus represents Hammersmith & Fulham in 3ST.

Our vision is to support the diverse VCSE in engaging with the health system and delivering meaningful services. By celebrating the impact of local charities, community organisations, and volunteering schemes, 3ST aims to improve the health and wellbeing of communities across North West London.

Our strategy tackles key challenges and opportunities for the VCSE sector in the NWL ICB area. We ensure the sector’s voice is heard, facilitating access in shaping policies and decisions, and finally enhancing the delivery of services.
